CASE STUDY: BWOPA CALIFORNIA

At a Glance

Client: BWOPA California (Black Women Organized for Political Action)

Role: Public Relations Consultant

Year: 2026

Scope: Leadership visibility, press materials, website and social media copy

The Assignment

BWOPA California is a statewide organization of Black women in civic and political leadership, with chapters and regional leaders across the state. In July 2026, Ni Ema was introduced to the organization's chapter presidents and regional directors as BWOPA California's Public Relations Consultant. The assignment was a leadership-visibility initiative: telling the stories of the women leading BWOPA's chapters and regions, and building the system to keep telling them.

The Approach

A system, not one-off posts. Ni Ema designed a leadership questionnaire that gathered bios, photos, leadership background, priorities, accomplishments, civic-engagement perspectives, and media authorization. She built a master press-release template, an organized shared drive, a State Office review process, and a publication workflow for the website, newsletter, social media, and local and statewide media.

Leader stories. She developed leadership profiles, press materials, website copy, and social media copy for chapter presidents and regional directors in Northern and Southern California, including individual spotlights and collective regional stories.

The Results

On August 20, 2026, BWOPA published two regional leadership features on its official website.

"BWOPA East Bay Leaders Building Black Civic Power Through Community Leadership," featuring VaShone Huff, Danielle Motley-Lewis, and RocQuel Johnson.

"BWOPA Northern California Regional Leaders Building Black Civic Power Through Service and Leadership," featuring Champagne Brown, Hon. Joey D. Smith, Latressa Wilson Alford, Esq., and Mellonie Richardson.

The Full Body of Work

Beyond the published features, the work included individual press releases for East Bay chapter leaders, long-form leadership spotlights for regional directors in Northern California and the Inland Empire, and Instagram spotlight copy for each leader and region.

What It Shows

Organizations run on the credibility of their leaders. A repeatable visibility system lets an institution introduce those leaders to the public with consistency, accuracy, and pride, chapter by chapter.
